Learn to display your ideas

Despite the bigger part of business owners perfectly know their business vision and can communicate it to other people, they may face some difficulties once it touches technical aspects due to lack of the corresponding background and experience.
If business owners deligate it to a developer, the eventual result may frustrate them since it may not coincide with the vision. To avoid this risk, entrepreneurs need to learn how to reflect their ideas using wireframes, sketches, prototypes, web pages screens, etc. If you have never done it in your life, below you can find some tips which might enhance cooperation between you and software engineers.
1. Sketches: Sketching is a very simple way to express your ideas with the help of pen, paper or even a napkin. Using these tools you can draw some specific pages schemas, interface elements and other components of your future application. This technique perfectly suits situations when you want to share some basic concepts with your team to find the most appropriate solution.
2. Flowcharts: Flowcharts is a very efficient technique which allows you to represent each action of the process in your system with the help of special symbols. As a business owner, you should use this tool to visually show the required processes and flows to your software engineers. During such discussions you can discover bottlenecks, gaps, problems and other tricky aspects of the process which should be solved at an early stage.
3. Use cases: These explain how you must act in different scenarios. For instance, if you have a web store application, it might be interesting for you how a user makes a purchase, how a payment gets into the system, how an order is created or how refunds are processed.
If we look at refunds closer, relative use cases could raise the following rules:
●If the order is cancelled within 14 days after the purchase, refund the whole sum
●If the order is canceled later than 14 days after the purchase, no refund is possible
It is crucial to identify these situational use cases for engineers since they unlikely know your internal business rules.
4. Wireframes:
A wireframe is the next stage of a sketch. What does it mean? Wireframes should have page components, show navigation systems, how all pages must interact with each other. You can draw them either on a piece of paper or use computer tools such as presentations or special software for wireframing.
5. Prototypes: Prototypes are clickable wireframes that allow users to interact with the screens. This is the best way to save money because you can show a prototype to your customer without any development expenses. On this stage you can identify problems, elicit new requirements and update the initial prototype. Once everything is agreed feel free to start the development process without any fear you are going to do something that won’t be needed or adored.
